In the foothills of the Andes on the southern shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, Bariloche is the gateway to Argentina’s sublimely beautiful Lake District. Many families hailing from Germany, Switzerland and Northern Italy settled here and their influence can be found in the local cuisine and Alpine-style architecture. In summer, enjoy trout fishing, horseback riding, rafting, climbing and hiking. In winter, nearby Cerro Catedral is the largest and most developed ski resort in South America. 

Mendoza is Argentina’s most important wine region, producing many of the country’s acclaimed Malbecs and more. With the Andes as a backdrop, it is also a great place to enjoy outdoor activities such as trekking, rafting, mountain biking and horseback riding. Comprising 275 cascades and straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil, Iguazu Falls are taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide. Small wonder in 2011 they were declared one of the UNESCO New Seven Natural Wonders of the World. A choice of walking trails and footbridges allows travellers to get right up close to the thundering falls while observing the local flora and fauna, which includes toucans, monkeys, coatimundis and butterflies.
