Elevated escape in a biodiverse paradise
Established in 1967, Botswana’s Chobe National Park is a vast, biologically diverse conservation area that’s home to lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, buffaloes and a thriving 50,000-strong elephant population. Set in a spectacular spot in the east of the national park, Chobe Chilwero Lodge is the most luxurious place to stay in the area, and grants guests a unique vantage point over the park and its wild inhabitants as they gather at the dazzling, deep-blue waters of the Chobe river, flanked by jackalberry and sausage trees.
There are 15 foliage-fringed suites scattered across lush green lawns and some inviting communal spaces, including a lounge, library and dining room, each linked to outdoor viewing terraces. Perhaps most impressively, it is the only property on the Botswana safari circuit with a full-service spa and a split-level swimming pool, making this the ideal destination for guests of all ages who prefer their action and adventure served with a side of rest and relaxation.

Top spot in the heart of elephant country
Chobe National Park, in the far north of Botswana, is known as the “Land of Giants”, due to its thriving population of Kalahari elephants, the largest of the African elephants. The rest of the Big Five are present here too, in this remarkably varied habitat encompassing savannah, woodland, riverbank and floodplain, with biodiversity to match. The “Chilwero” in Chobe Chilwero Lodge means “high view”, and the lodge’s elevated position in the eastern region of the park provides mesmerizing views of the sapphire-blue Chobe River and beyond. A 25-minute drive away is the world’s only quadripoint where Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia all meet; Victoria Falls is just a 90-minute drive away.
Enhance your stay with these extraordinary experiences
The abundance of flora and fauna in and around Chobe National Park – from the smallest and most obscure to the largest and most iconic of species – is justly famous and will be revealed to you on expert-led game drives in the early morning and late afternoon. Excursions by motorized skiff provide another perspective on the landscape and its wildlife. A day trip to nearby Victoria Falls is likewise not to be missed. Alternatively, for something quieter, calmer and more modestly proportioned, try a Sundowner Cruise or book an appointment in our treetop spa treatment room.

Expert-led game drives in the early morning and late afternoon take you into the thick of this unique and extraordinarily biodiverse habitat in open-sided 4x4 vehicles.

A sundowner here is an unimprovably lovely experience. Yet there is a certain additional frisson that comes with enjoying that sundowner aboard one of our specially designed skiffs on the Chobe River, among the wading elephants and grazing buffalo.

Our double-decker safari boat can accommodate up to 18, with 360-degree swivel seats for optimal viewing – game-spotting is generally best from the upper deck, but breakfast and lunch are served below. Either way, it provides a wonderful change in point of view, perfect for keen photographers.

The Chobe River is great for fishing, on a catch-and-release basis, particularly between May and August, when it teems with bream and tiger fish. Staff at Chobe Chilwero Lodge will be happy to assist in making arrangements with our local partners. (Additional cost)

Mosi-oa-Tunya – The Smoke That Thunders – otherwise known as Victoria Falls, is the largest curtain of falling water on the face of the earth. Chobe Chilwero is only 90 minutes’ drive from this miracle of nature. Once again, staff at Chobe Chilwero will be happy to assist in making arrangements with our local partners. (Additional cost)
